This is Trinidad & Tobago on the globe

Picture
The Republic of T&T is the land of steelband, calypso, tassa, chutney, doubles and roti.
It is the southermost part of the West Indies Caribbean, and located about 10 miles from the mainland of Venezuela, South America.
Trinidad is the larger of the two main islands; the other is Tobago.
The 1.4 million Trini peeps speak english.
Trinidad is a 2.5 world country (a little above 3rd. world). Oil has blessed us with some wealth, but the social gaps are clearly seen. Hummers pass people bathing in drains. New, one billion dollar buildings overlook mangrove dwellers in shacks.
And I can write about this on my laptop, connected to the net with broadband!

Tobago is the tourist mecca. Mostly UK and German visitors.
It's great for diving, sailing, and chillin'.

Land of fete

Picture
So here's T&T in the Caribbean. Easy and cheap to get to. Four hours from Miami.
The main event is Carnival. There's a two day parade on the Monday and Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. This usually falls in February, but is actually 40 days before Easter.
Apart from the 2-day parade, there are preceding weeks of steel band, and calypso competitions, and parties and fetes non-stop. Actually the fetes start from the end of the Christmas season.

Tobago's main event is the Great Fete. It's takes place the week before August 31st, our Independence holiday.
There is an international power boat race, and a huge beach party to end the week. It's a blast.

Of course, there's also parties and clubs to go to every day, and pubs, bars, liming spots, and rum shops all over the place.
When the traffic is really fked-up, you can pull over to a road-side bar and cool out until it eases. It clears in about 3 or 4 hours.
The more industrious have a cooler of brewskies in the back seat, the AC on high, and the vol on max.
So be careful, and practice defensive driving.
Look out for the guy that might be checking the expiry date on his brew, while his bb is ringing, and he's changing the dvd.

We Islands

Picture
Pretty small islands. Trinidad is about 1600 square miles, and Togabo 116.
Tobago is located NE of Trinidad, and has numerous daily flights and ferries connecting the two islands.
The country has lots of tropical forest, rivers, fauna and flora.
There are several nature camps, nature tours, and hiking trails.
There are birds found only in Trinidad. The islands off the NW coast have caves that are worth a visit.
There are also cave in the northern range that are filled with blind birds.
Most of the large coral reefs are off Tobago, but smaller ones exist on the north coast of Trinidad.
Fishing trips can be organised at Port of Spain or Chaguaramas, and there are several types of game, and eating fish, like Tarpon, Crevali, and King.
The beaches are numerous.
Trinidad has 20- something miles of beach on the east coast at Mayaro and Manzanilla, the north coast beaches and coves - Maracas, Las Cuevas, and Paria, and the south coast at Cedros, Moruga and Quinam.
Tobago's beaches are too many to list. The most popular is Store Bay, the home of the Great Fete.
Pigeon Point, Man o' War, and Bucco are others.
